What's been going on lately... lots of grilling and gardening. And work of course. :P

I've lived in Florida for three and half years now, and I've been dreaming of a little garden considered how you can really grow a lot of things in this climate. People in Florida can grow their own oranges on their back yards if they want to. Anyway, we lived in a small apartment until last June, when we lucked out and found this cute house for rent. Chris gave me a tomato plant and some cucumber seeds for my birthday. That was June though, and the weather in Florida in June is horrible. The beach is the only outside option for me, and I mean the beach on the east coast of Florida, the west has no breeze in the middle of summer, and of course we live closer to the west. So I wasn't doing a whole lot of gardening or any outside activity in June.

My cucumber plant packages told me that the earliest planting time in Florida is September, and apart from a few sweaty 15 minute walks, September wasn't the month to be outdoors for me either. Just way too hot and pouring rain every afternoon. So finally come October and I noticed a slight chance to the better. Finally something nice seems to be happening with this weather. The air has already cooled around 10 degrees fahrenheit, and it makes a difference.

I planted a bunch of different things this weekend. I have never really planted anything, so I am hoping for the best, and studying on what I need to do next. I didn't get any pictures outdoors yet, but there is not much than black mulch to see anyway. But here is a picture of some of the seed packages. Some of the veggies will be in containers and some on the ground.

I also made a compost box today. We went to Ikea a few days ago and I bought a big plastic container with a lid. I drilled air holes all over it and put all kinds of kitchen scraps and leaves in. It might not be big enough a container to really start the composting process, but I'm trying. :)

Here's a couple of pictures on the cats. They haven't been too happy that we've been spending so much time on the yard lately. They are very social and follow us to every room when we're in.

Nothing much else has been going on. I've tried to learn to make Nan bread, and although it's been really good, I still can't make it taste like the real deal. I of course eat my nan the way I eat any bread, with some cheese and cucumbers on it.

That's it for now, good night.

It has been a fast week for me. The days that I work usually go by really fast and I don't really have time to do that much else than work because I work such long days. But when the weekend comes, I take the time to relax and do little things. I don't like having a too busy schedule on my days off, so I don't plan a lot of activities before hand. Simple things work for me.

I must have been exhausted yesterday because I slept till past eleven. The day was pretty much spent in catching up on some cleaning, and starting a new knitting project. I wanted to make gloves, but after starting I realized really fast that the gloves I was about to make would fit a giant. For a moment I considered making socks instead, but even those would have been really big, so I decided to just make some loose legwarmers.  One of them was finished yesterday and the other one is about halfway done right now. I've never had legwarmers and obviously I don't even need them right now, but maybe there will be a few cold days in the next few months where I can use them.

I like doing little knitting and crocheting projects, but I am lazy in planning them. I am just now starting to realize how it matters what kind of yarn you use and so forth. But I feel like as long as I'm having fun, I shouldn't take it too seriously.

Yesterday morning was pretty exiting, because I saw that the little cucumber plants had pushed themselves through the dirt. I was surprised at how big they were right away. The morning before there was nothing out  so I was really excited to find them. Now it's just a matter of watering and feeding them, and keeping the bugs out.. I hope it's gonna be easier than it sounds.

The tomato plant is not dead yet, and it actually has a few flowers.. so I'll wait and see.

I was gonna write about the crazy people I had to talk to on the phone at work this past week but I'm not feeling like writing more at this time. Maybe later or maybe not, we'll see.

Walked around the lake tonight.

Fun day working on the yard!

So it's the first day of October and it was actually pretty nice outside today! Still pretty hot but not so humid anymore. I felt like I was breathing air, not water. It's been months since the weather's been this good.

Started out the day in Lowe's. Got some stuff for the garden and after that worked on the yard pretty much all day. Our yard is very plain and not very private, and ever since we moved here I've wanted to do something about it but it's been just too hot .

First I planted a few flowers and then I transfered the tomato plant outside. It's been growing inside for a couple of months already and only made one tomato so I thought that maybe it's not getting enough sun light. It didn't look too happy outside either so I'll see how it does and if it doesn't get better I'll just get another one.

After that I planted some cucumber seeds and now I'm just waiting to see if any of them will grow into delicious cucumbers. When it was all done we grilled some hot dogs and pork chops on our little grill.

Fun day! Tomorrow it's back to work for the next four days.
